The benefits of learning how to sing from home
Most aspiring singers believe they need private vocal coaching to learn to sing well. Admittedly private lessons and singing school are great ways to learn to sing, but unfortunately for most people it’s a luxury they can’t afford. - You get to repeat the lessons as often as you need to.
- You can save bundles and still get to learn from the best of the best vocal coaches.
With so many great reasons to start learning to sing at home, hopefully you’re already convinced. Still have your doubts? Well, allow me to respond to some of the common concerns people tend to have about learning to sing at home: (For more info check out this practice singing at home article.)
Where is the best place to practice?
Anywhere where you can be alone and concentrate is a good place to practice singing. Ideally you should have a area that you can leave set up for your singing practice so it’s easier to get started.
When to practice singing at home?
My recommendation is to schedule your singing for a specific time each day. It doesn’t matter whether you sing early or later in the day. Just try and find the most convenient time for you when there are less distractions and you can concentrate.
How long should I practice singing?
Just how long you practice your singing will depend on your experience and skill. If you’re a beginner then 15 – 20 minutes a day will be fine. As your singing improves and your voice gets stronger, you can start increasing this to about 30 – 60 minutes. But bear in mind that a focused 20 minute home singing practice session is much better than 60 minutes of unfocused practice. Also short regular practice are better than fewer marathon sessions. And don’t strain your voice. If it gets tired, then rest it.
Tips for singing at home
The best advice I can give you is to stop making excuses and just get started. If you’re short of space, then practice in the basement. Pressed for time? Then practice your vocal drills in the car to work or school. Don’t allow yourself to be held back. Persevere and you’ll mature into an amazing singer.
